About Chris Messer

Chris Messer

Chris Messer’s art is reflected in all aspects of her life.  A signature member of the National Watercolor Society and California Watercolor Association, her extensive and diverse collection spans 30 years of dedication and inspiration.

Chris was born in the United States but spent her formative years living in Newfoundland and Northern Africa. While in Africa this  gave her the opportunity to travel through Europe twice as a child.  At the age of 12, her family moved to Sacramento, CA where she attended high school and college.  It was during this impressionable time that she traveled throughout the western United States discovering her true passion.  Fifteen years later, she began her artistic pursuit at Diablo Valley College, and later at California College of Arts and Crafts where she graduated in 1989 with high honors.

She spent the next 12 years enveloped in her art, focusing on gallery shows and teaching.  It was during this time that she became recognized as an influential artist.  She received numerous ‘Best in Shows’ and was awarded the prestigious “Grumbacher Gold Medallion Award.”  She was teaching 9 classes per week at various art institutions, including a Masters class at the Art Institute of San Francisco and drawing and painting to children and adults at Walnut Creek Civic Arts.  Her rigorous creative schedule also included honing her own skills by attending evening drawing classes and producing many more paintings.

In 2002, she relocated to Mount Shasta, where she currently lives and creates, influenced by the majestic, quiet beauty of the landscape.  Her art continues to grow as she explores different mediums, such as acrylic, gouache and mixed media.
